Modern Slavery and Ethical Labour Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Waste Disposal Bloomsbury in respect of the financial year ending 31 December 2025. It sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. Waste Disposal Bloomsbury provides commercial and domestic waste management and disposal services across the United Kingdom, working with a diverse network of suppliers, contractors, and partners.
Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy
Waste Disposal Bloomsbury has a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, child labour, and exploitation. We recognise that these abuses can occur in any sector and at any level of the supply chain, including waste and recycling services. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls that seek to ensure modern slavery is not taking place in our business or in any of our supply chains.
Our zero-tolerance approach applies to all employees, agency workers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and any other third parties who perform services for or on behalf of Waste Disposal Bloomsbury. Any breach of this policy may result in the termination of commercial relationships and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities.
Supply Chains and Supplier Audits
Our supply chains include providers of collection vehicles, waste transfer and treatment facilities, equipment and maintenance services, personal protective equipment, cleaning and security services, and professional services. We recognise that some of these areas may present a higher inherent risk of labour exploitation.
To manage these risks, we conduct proportionate due diligence on new and existing suppliers. This may include pre-qualification questionnaires, assessment of labour and employment practices, and reviews of health and safety standards. We expect our suppliers to comply with all applicable labour, employment, and human rights legislation and to adopt policies and practices that are consistent with our own zero-tolerance stance on modern slavery.
Where appropriate, we carry out audits of higher-risk suppliers. These audits may be conducted on-site or remotely and can cover worker documentation, recruitment practices, working hours, wages and benefits, grievance mechanisms, and subcontracting arrangements. If a supplier is unable or unwilling to address identified risks or non-compliance within an agreed timescale, we reserve the right to suspend or end the business relationship.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Waste Disposal Bloomsbury encourages a culture of openness and accountability. We have internal reporting channels that enable employees and workers to raise concerns about suspected modern slavery, unethical conduct, or any other serious issues without fear of retaliation.
Concerns can be raised with line managers, senior management, or through a dedicated whistleblowing contact point. All reports are treated sensitively and, where possible, confidentially. We investigate concerns promptly and thoroughly and take appropriate action, which may include engaging with suppliers, providing additional training, amending procedures, or reporting matters to law enforcement or regulatory bodies.
We also expect our suppliers to maintain their own transparent reporting mechanisms so that workers in their operations and subcontracted activities can safely raise concerns related to exploitation, coercion, or poor working conditions.
Training, Awareness, and Continuous Improvement
We provide training and guidance to managers and employees who are involved in procurement, contract management, and site operations to help them recognise the signs of modern slavery and understand how to respond to potential risks. Awareness materials and regular communications reinforce our zero-tolerance policy and highlight the importance of responsible sourcing and ethical employment practices.
We are committed to reviewing and enhancing our approach as best practice and legal requirements evolve. This includes monitoring industry developments, learning from audits and investigations, and engaging with suppliers to encourage higher standards throughout our supply chains.
Governance and Annual Review
Responsibility for overseeing our efforts to combat modern slavery rests with the senior management team of Waste Disposal Bloomsbury. They receive periodic updates on our due diligence activities, supplier audits, incidents reported, and any remedial actions taken.
This Modern Slavery Statement will be reviewed at least annually to ensure it remains accurate, effective, and aligned with legal requirements and our organisational values. As part of this review, we will assess the effectiveness of our policies, training, audit programme, and reporting channels, and we will identify opportunities for improvement in preventing and addressing modern slavery risks in our business and supply chains.
